About Miss Dixon:

I graduated high school from Solvay High School in 2006. I decided to go to OCC for 2 years because I had no idea what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. By the end of those 2 years, I decided that I wanted to teach. I applied to Le Moyne and finished a bachelor degree in English Literature and graduated in 2010. I then quickly applied to Le Moyne’s Graduate Education program in Inclusive Childhood Education, dually certified in Special Education for grades K-6. I student taught in a 3rd grade class at Solvay Elementary and in a 5th grade at Dr. King Elementary. I graduated with a Masters of Science in Teaching in 2012.

As an educator, I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs psychological, social and physiological support as well as affection and security. I will provide your children – my students – with these fundamentals that are essential to flourish. Each child needs an invigorating and motivating atmosphere to grow and develop academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. It is my passion as an educator to help students succeed at their best skills and to grow and develop from their worst skills in a safe, supportive environment that encourages them to take risks, explore their curiosity, fearlessly express their self and be leaders.

My Classroom Expectations & Policies:

Academically:

*Every student will read a few pages of a chosen book every weeknight for homework. Each night, a parent must sign their weekly reading log, including the page numbers and title of the book

*There may not be homework every night but reading is always assigned

*When there is homework, it is due on the given due date

*If homework is not completed, it will be made up during their recess

*Effort must be shown. In math, work must be shown. In ELA or science, a few sentences must be written

*Homework and class work will be graded either that day or that night. It will always be returned within 24 hours unless stated beforehand

*Misplacing unfinished homework is inexcusable. Students can always find an extra copy of the homework on this website.

Behaviorally:

*In our classroom, we have a behavior policy: Bright Lights is where students start their day. It means they are on the right track to having a successful day. Fading Lights is when a student’s behavior is inappropriate. It means that they need to check their behaviors and get back on the right track. Lights Out would mean that the student has lost all his or her privileges for the day. It also results in a phone call home.

*Every student should be considerate, courteous, and conscientious of their classmates and the other students in the school.

*Inappropriate behaviors such as rude comments/remarks, backtalk, name-calling, putdowns, bullying, discrimination, and harassment etc. will not be tolerated.

*Be on time and prepared for school

*Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. All objects/games/toys brought from home must stay in the student’s backpack until lunch, recess, or dismissal

*Bring all problems to an adult
